Wyomie
(Why oh me)

She was named for the state of Wyoming where she was born and ran free
for the first seven years of her life. Looking at this beautiful horse, one
cannot help but to imagine what a breath-taking sight it must have been to see her
majestically galloping across the plains with the wind blowing through her
mane, her eyes open and alert, her ears pitched forward listening to her
surroundings and her nostrils flaring as she takes in the scents of her
beloved homeland. You can almost hear the thundering of her hooves and see
the trail of dust swirling behind her.
She is one of the most gorgeous horses I have ever seen and the saddest.
This horse seems to be able to connect with humans in a way that makes most
accomplished horse people shudder. Wyomie has the prettiest but most haunted eyes
you will ever see and when she looks at you, it is like she is looking into your very soul.
You can feel her terror and her desperation for freedom as she stares over the fence into
the distance. It even seems she was sending a message to Diane DeLano a mustang
mentor and trainer who renamed this horse. Wyomie is supposed to be for
Wyoming but maybe, just maybe Wyomie was thinking "Why me?" and Diane picked
up on it.

Diane DeLano is a certified least resistance horse trainer and she is
wonderful with these wild horses. She has a very kind calm and gentle way
about her that envelope both the horses and people who have the good fortune
to meet and work with her. Diane took Wyomie in after an adopter had owned
her for one year and decided he could not gentle her. She carries permanent
indentation's on her neck from him roping and choking her. She was very
malnourished and she would explode and bolt away any time she was approached.
This horse had been very abused by her previous owner and he was reported to the
proper authorities.

Diane has loved this horse and worked with her for 8 months now.
However, Wyomie is just not going to ever be able to completely trust humans.
Even with all of the love and tender touches she gets from Diane it makes you
want to cry when you see this horse stand & shake uncontrollably while she is
being whispered to and brushed, something most horses love. She probably
trusts Diane as much as she can trust anyone but you can see the whites of
her eyes as they dart around to locate a safehaven for her to run to at her
first opportunity.

Diane has finally come to the realization that Wyomie although, she is
loved, still feels she is being abused. By keeping her in captivity is abuse.
It is emotional abuse. This horse just cannot adjust to being confined.
So out of love for Wyomie Diane, has promised Wyomie that she will set
her free. In order to do this she has found Black Hills Sanctuary in South
Dakota http://www.gwtc.net/~iram/ for mustangs that has 11,000 acres where Wyomie
can live out her days happy, free and unafraid with other mustangs.
In the Sanctuary, Wyomie will be fed and not recaptured by the BLM to be readopted.
To make this happen for Wyomie Diane has to take three unpaid days off of
work.  The round trip is about 4,000 miles. Fuel will run about $1,000.00 and
lodging and food can be kept to a minimum but the trip needs to take place by
August 28th into September 2nd because the winter in South Dakota comes early
so the Sanctuary owners want Wyomie to have a buddy before winter sets in so
she will be able to follow them to the food and water stations.  Also, the
Sanctuary would like a $175.00 donation.

We are sending this letter in hopes that you can find it in your heart
to donate $5, $10, $20 or whatever you can afford to help us help Wyomie.
We will be taking pictures of the trip and the release and will send them along
with a written summary to all who donate about setting free this beautiful
creature and giving back to her something that should have never been taken, namely,
her heart, spirit and mind. So, please be sure to include your return address.
We have a fund set up at the First Union Bank, 219 Indian River Ave.,
in Titusville, FL 32796 called the "Mustang Wyomie Release Fund" please make
checks out to Diane DeLano. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts and from
Wyomie too for any help you may be able to offer.

If you can help please send donations ASAP to:
